well, the 1.9.31 unstable is very attractive
I'm a long term OpenSuSE user and elive seems very fast and beatiful.

But now the problem :
with the aspire one D150 ( 10 inches netbook ) the audio does not works
I had the same problem in OpenSuSE 11.1 and I heard in many other distributions
The problem is due to the kernel version and to alsa version ( I would ask you, why if this release is out yesterday
you choose to exit with a 2.6.26 kernel when kernel.oeg report last stable at 2.6.30 ?? )
for audio to works it is necessary 2.6.29 or newer and alsa 1.0.19 or newer.
( can I install update them without problem or have I to wait they are suited for elive itself ? )
wifi ( atheros ) and eth works good and the Iceweasel is very very light and fast.
card reader too works perfectly
I tried to connect a umts usb-stick but did not found any program who manages it ( maybe I have to work on it )

FS#414 - Acer Aspire One A110 - System shuts down after 1 minute Expand Collapse

After bypassing  bug 413  (http://bugs.elivecd.org/index.php?do=details&task_id=413&project=2&order=dateopened&sort=desc) and booting without an SD card present, keymap selection and resolution selection can take place.
After X starts up, and the Enlightment desktop displays, the system will shut down after about 30 seconds to 1 minute, whether one uses the system or not.

I think it might be related to the loading of both acer-wmi and MadWifi, since they are known not to play nice together. Other distros such as ubuntu blacklist acer-wmi for the Acer Aspire One models. Using geubuntu (a E17 based ubuntu distro) no such shutdown happens.

Further debugging is not possible, since any logfiles are gone when the system shuts down.

A friend of mine has an ethernet modem
It worked fine till yesterday when i upgraded his system, from then it didn't work anymore.
pppoeconf tells that it can't find any address concentrator on the ethernet, and it doesn't work.
I have no clue how to fix it, since there shouldn't be any kernel or driver issue (since is an ethernet modem).

Ubuntu doesn't set any password to root by default, this is a very good idea (ironic), so that the migration mode of the installer works perfectly but when the user want to do anything with root... can't do anything, cant login, nothing... since there's no password

Add a verifier of root passwords in the migration/upgrade mode so that will request it if is empty

I will need a sample line of the root file / etc/shadow in order to know how to detect it

Installing in /dev/hdb1 for example, grub generates a configuration using (hd0,0), where it should be (hd1,0)

The questions is...

• with which disk you boot the computer ? hda or hdb ?
• where you have selected to install grub ? (if the installer has asked you this)

I think that the selector of grub needs to be rewrited... in case that is not hda or sda, ask allways to the user about which/where to install grub, a better look needs to be made on this side

Somebody has reported me that recently, no one of its computers will connect to internet automatically (wired), after to talk a bit with him i have discover that he has just set a own profile name to their connections (instead to keep the //default// name) **Cause**: He has changed the **default** profile to other name This could be a very common problem, the users don't know that they needs to use the name //default// in order to have it to autoconnect or it will not work. **Fix**: What I think that could be a good fix is to don't permit the user to change the name //default// on the profile, until there's actually a profile called //default// existing and that has the autoconnect set to //Yes//. Any better idea ?

The spaces on the ESSID is not fully supported, on some pieces of the interface (list of essid's and status) are only show the first word, the good point is that it does connect correctly here (essid is "scg & volcanica"), but the status looks like are not correctly showed (like it not connected).

This is a minor-preference bug

If you partition up your disk and want /boot to be JFS then Grub just shows the "Grub is now loading" with the "Stage 1.5" at the top.

I've tried to load up the livecd and mount and chroot into the installed environment to run grub manually, but that does not work either.

This is both for elive 1.9.36-compiz and the .37 non-compiz.

FS#467 - no audio, fine tune after each boot up, cannot shut down, E17-Co Expand Collapse

Attempting to escape from prisoner status at M$. Have tried many distros over past few months, E17-Compiz my favorite so far. Have downloaded and installed latest version, 1.9.40 and during installation process, of course, installer verfied my download as being good.

Problem 1) No audio, Audacity (the Denon player)and Audio CD extractor both DEAD, nothing happens, no instruction. However, when I play a DVD, using movie player, I have sound? Either bug or are there special codecs that need to be downloaded to play CD's and MP3's?

Problem 2) Each and EVERY time I boot E17-compiz, after it finalizes, a window pops up saying it needs to "fine tune". This process takes almost 10-15 mins and always ends with: ERROR: Module slamr does not exist in /proc/modules. It would seem something in the loading of the info off the Live CD is incompatible? I have deleted and re-installed whole system, same problem, cannot stop/prevent "FINE TUNE"

Problem 3) E17-Compiz will NOT shut down. Go to System, power off and a window pops up advising of shut down, but stating: "please wait" After 10 minutes of waiting, still nothing happening. This problem happens every single time requiring me to Alt + SysRq+O to get out. Perhaps the shut down and fine tune are related as E17-compiz is not shutting down properly and is noted on the next boot triggering the "fine tune".

If these are not "bugs" (although I have spent hours on each problem) please advise corrective measures in simple, easy to follow instruction. I note forum is not much help on most problems and this is one thing that really discourages people who are trying to leave M$ from going to Linux.

I am happy to pay for support or even to financially invest in this project as I like what I see, but am discouraged that basic things like sound, boot up and shut down do not work. I can understand and appreciate E17-Compiz is not stable, but one would think basics such as these would be way beyond the unstable/in development mode.

Thanks for any help you can provide and if bugs, I hope they can be corrected asap.

It started booting and when the System asked for my root-password it did not accept it but kept on asking for the password again and again.

Is it possible the system simply loaded the wrong keymap?

The Bugs:

1. Keyboard - Live works fine in German with QWERTZ Keyboard. The installed System is in German but the Keyboard falls back to QWERTY. If I change it with Elpanel QWERTZ works only for the actual Session, after Log-Off or Reboot the Keyboard is falling back to QWERTY and didn't save my settings. There is one Error Message while changing:

a) The System freeze while trying Themes and changing them for a few times. I have to break the session with ctrl alt f1/f2.
b) or if its not freezing there comes an Error Message like: enlightment is crashing, recover or exit.

FS#503 - LVM install error Elive 1.9.51 Expand Collapse

Install using LVM gives the error message: "/dev/VolGroup00/LogVol06 is mounted; will not make a filesystem here!"

Created 11 lvm logical volumes thru Sabayon 5 install with LogVol06 as spare partition of 10.gb. Tried to select LogVol06 as / and got the above error message. Tried twice with ext4 and ext3.

Hp desktop, Amd x2, 3gb ram. Elive 1.9.51, Separate /boot partition of 10 gb. Logical volumes /home /usr /opt /var /tmp.

So, where to set it to another value? The measurement of the battery status shows about 30% when there is nothing left.. Cinelerra won't launch for me using the latest e17 from the "tests" branch of the Elive repos (it has never launched, even when I tried
it under the default e17 from Gem).

When I try to run it, I get a small, transparent window in the upper
left corner of my screen. When I close that window, I get this error
message:

"Application Execution Error: Cinelerra stopped running unexpectedly.
There was no error message. An exit code of 1 was /usr/bin/cinelerra."

By the way, it does launch under e16, but with an error message about memory...

Looks like not all the fonts for special languages are installed by default (see google translator for chinese or japanese, or see also to configure hte language with langconf (characters not readable for some languages)), langconf should show ALL the caracters because i have made it one by one and i have read all of them

Could be need to try to install manually some font packages and see which ones are remaining, but WARNING, some fonts packages takes a LOT of space in hard disk and the size of the ISO is pretty limited, install just the ones that are needed, not waste space of the limited ISO size standard

Note: is possible that could be need to restart X after to install a font. Use the livecd mode better

Could be nice if we have an e17 module to limit the windows to be in the screen limits, instead to pass over it. This is a useful feature for non-experienced users.

Note: this report has somewhere (i dont remember where) a list of features needed, like which options to have on it (like: limit the windows to be in-screen, limit the windows to be not entirely out of the screen, allow the window to be partially out, etc etc), is needed to check this list first (in hackers or in dev ? i dont remember right now)

According to all wiki the iwlagn module and mac8*** module required to run these cards should be built into the kernel but not there and for some reason elive doesn't allow its installation. The iwlagn module is different from the iwp module.

Hi, sorry to have to report, I just tried to install (with a proven DVD download of E17 compiz) on a 2nd computer, Intel MB DG45FC. First problem was it would not recognize display resolution, I am using Mitsubishi Diamond Digital, wide screen (16 x 9) and factory default setting called for is 1280 x 768 at 60HZ—which is in listed choices upon installation, nor any other resolution including auto? This is a 64bit machine, I have the DVD installed OK, no problem, on a Gigabyte 32bit MB.

I kept trying, over and over and somehow was able to "force" installation after being given a choice to use a pre-existing resolution(?) Install completed, fine tune came up and stopped at: "module slamr does not exist in /proc/modules. Also, internet connect was not able to be made, no matter what I tried so I can make no correction through apt-get, Synaptic or .deb. I also got a notice that e17 economorph failed to install because of some file in libdecorate(?) was trying to overwrite an already existing file. Not being technically capable, I haven't a clue.

But please, do not fool yourself into thinking the slamr "bub" has been corrected and gone away, it is still there.

Installing Crossover Linux (both Pro and Games) from CodeWeavers causes either enlightenment or Xorg to hang or crash.

When the install is finishing up Xorg/enlightenment freezes, mouse can be moved, but nothing happens - and I am unable to change to another desktop using CTRL + ALT + arrow key

The same thing happens when trying to install applications or managing bottles. Though sometimes I get an error message that enlightenment has SEGV'ed with the options to Recover or Quit.

I think it might be when Crossover tries to generate menu links for the application, but I am not entirely sure.

I am sorry to say that this used to work under Ubuntu/enlightenment.

FS#505 - 1.9.42 compiz - wlan0 .... kernel panic!! RTL-8185 Expand Collapse

1.9.42 compiz live cd cant boot up, the machine get frizzed with this error msg on screen:

Network device wlan0 detected, DHCP broadcasting for ip. [ 40.783723] Kernel panic - not syncing: HwthreeWire() CmdReg: 0XFF RE|WE bits are not clear!!

I have to say that on 1.0 this realtek (RTL-8185) pci wifi board didnt work (the system did not recognized it), but livecd have been loaded ok, the instalation was ok, and the system was full working
On 1.9.50 / 51 the wifiboard works perfectly

I have installed FreeRadius from synaptic but don't know how to configure it.

FS#513 - Wifi problem on Dell D410 Expand Collapse

Hi,
I use elive installed on a Dell D410 laptop with Broadcom BCM4311 wifi card. I can see networks, but I'm unable to connect to anyone because dhclient is unable to obtain an IP address.
I tried other wifi cards (Realtek, D-Link), and it is always same problem. All these cards are supported by Debian Lenny or Ubuntu 8.04.
I really like elive and wouldn't go back to Lenny because of this wifi problem.

i cna't remove iceweals,
if i remove it on the synaptic or on the command line, all major importa packetage of Elive is gone :'(

and u can see on the picture
i have firefox, and i need to clik on the link and iceweals is lunch and bug, and i need when i click on the link on xchat or other program, go on firefox and not lunch iceweals.

FS#541 - Enlightenment SEGV while changing resolution Expand Collapse

When trying to change resolution screen goes black and a box appears showing that Enlightenment SEGV'd.

To reproduce this bug please boot Elive from a CD, selecting automatic resolution. After full boot up enter Settings Panel/Screen/Resolution and choose some other resolution and frequency but do not save your selection, just click "restore" button and then change frequency again. Now this crash should happen.
I supose this behaviour is easier to reproduce using CRT display.

My guess is that this SEGV happens because when you mark resolution and frequency for the first time and cancel, the choice of resolution is not remembered, but you are still able to choose frequency and try to set it.

My rig has GeForce 5700 FX and thus uses nvidia 173 driver.

FS#542 - tick mark in Screen Resolution Setting box is not being updated Expand Collapse

After changing resolution or frequency with the Screen Resolution Setting box the tick mark doesn't change it's place. However it marks the proper option after closing and reopening this box.
