FS#698 - WebSite ( Chat, Forums 2018 Look and feel)

Hello

Just trying to help

I know it take money to use modern tool like https://www.discourse.org/ for forums

But I would try to make the whole Elive experience smooth... Not just the product

Everytime I try to post something on the forum, it oftentime rejectmy message because of words I used.. I am patient but not everyone will be...

The Chat tool look like some 1990 IRC Chat channel for techies only / IRC Look... Why not use something more mdern like Telegram ? Keybase.io ? Something fast, modern and that we can use easily from our PC, WEB or mobile phone...

If your target customers are TECHNIES, my suggestions are not important

But if it’s everyone who love technologie and want try new things, Everything need to be smooth : from the Chat, Forums tool, communications with the community in general...

THERE ARE A LOT OF DISTROS OUT THERE : I don,t know if it would help, but I would make ELive easier to try and download and make Elive so good/beatufil that word of mouth will do it’s magic and you’ll get more " PATREONS” ready to invest 1$, 3$, 5$ per month to support the project...

As said in the other report, there's many keywords blacklisted... can you tell me which ones are the ones that not works? so I can try to see how they are set/configured

well, it is! lol, and old project called phorum, using since around 10 years ago

Telegram ? Keybase.io ? Something fast, modern and that we can use easily from our PC, WEB or mobile phone...

Sure, all these things are welcome and some needed (like the not requirement to register an user), looking of course to the "bad things" that can have (for example the actual forum is good so that the user can search for topics, or use the search box, and google also returns results if the users searches on it)

I tried a few weeks ago to search a forum alternative that can be used but i have no see any good one, suggestions?

Btw the only candidate that I found for a forum was https://flarum.org/ , but the development stills in Beta and I will need to migrate the server too, so it will take some first to implement it if flarum is the final candidate

I will let you know if I find a good looking, modern, safe forum alternative

But for Chat, Telegram could be cool no ? But it still ask for a phone number...

I love keybase.io they also offer free 250 gig storage on the web, but their forum are usefull trough the APP only...

For Elive, you need a forums for dummies interface / modern tool... and not force people to install an app to use your forums...

BTW this Ticket system / issues ( this tool) is perfectly ok...It's doing the job perfectly.

JF
it's more the forums / Chat tools I would change when possible.

This BTS (ticket/issues site) is equally old as the forum :), but yeah, it works like a charm, fast and efficient for what is meant to do

About the chat, it is true that telegram are more modern (and with some few extra features) but in a fast overview i found many reasons to still use the traditional IRC chat instead, for example:
* many IRC channels with (very high professional) help in different topics (linux, programming, scripting, python, etc etc)
* keyra (bot) is in the channel to answer many FAQ questions to novice users
* irc chat application included in elive (not a web service consuming some GB of ram)
* transfer data using IRC is extremely small (so you can leave it opened the entire day without consuming internet, useful for countries with a slow internet or poor bandwith)
* the chat works directly from web (website link to directly enter in the chat)

About the forums, as said, the only best option could be flarum, so if you found a better one i will be happy to know :)

Btw, since you are interested on the visual/presentation topic, I think that you will like what is going to look like the new website of elive :) http://test.sandbox.elivecd.org/homepage-new (only the homepage made for now, but the new web is going to switch it soon!)

I like the new web site a lot ! Your accent too LOL ( we all have one no ? ) in the video explaining how to move the windows around, resize ALT THIS AND THAT

About the words not accepted in the forum tool your using ( beside rejecting the words, that forum tool, is not that bad LOL, So the forum reject a whole (complete) paragraph. So the error message is THE WORD " all the paragraph" you have used has been banned... So there is no way to know which words is not accepted.
