FS#699 - Make Elive Download process easier

Sorry for using this url to report suggestion. I don’t like the forum tool LOL

1) Trial : I know you want to live from Elive, but making it difficult to try it, with so many distros on the market, does it help you ? Just brainstorming, I am not sure neither. Exemple I signed as a patreon to give Elive " little amount” of money monthly, but I still have to wait 24 hours to try the last version ( as a patreon).

I asked to try the last version and the link I received is is not that simple, I clicked it and click USB and still endup on the page where I need to enter my email to get the trial in 24 hours... I am sure may have missed something but other will to... Wouldn’t be better to make it simple to try and cross your finger people will pay ( Patreon ) to support your “amazing” product ?

2) Everything is about perception : may be I would use more modern / good looking forum &tools for support (I know, money is needed to use tools as discourse [www.discourse.org] ) ? real techies won’t care about the support tools you use but may be other yes...

1) hum, the direct download happens automatically with the donation (from the download page), this is of course not set for the patreon donations and I don't see a way to automate it :), except sending manually emails (which can be slower than wait the 24h delay), the link of the download page can be re-used so it changes very rarely (like every 3 months)

About the USB download: there was a problem in the website which will didn't returned the link, I have just fixed it and probably will need to buy dedicated servers to serve the isos (was working for the DVD version, and btw virtualbox requires the DVD (iso) version too, not the USB)

2) there's a double problem with the forums:

  • it actually receives a lot of spam, so the posting can be difficult (lots of keywords blacklisted), the solution will be to use reCaptcha but the plugin for it uses v1 which doesn't works anymore. By other side that forum is pretty friendly for the users (emoticons and usability) and there's many old posts/users from it
  • there's no enough resources (donations) to pay for extra services like a forum (discourse or others), and btw I just seen the pricing and is pretty high

But about the forums, yeah it could be good for the users to have some better solution, I just don't see which one

Tks I can now download the DVD ISO file. And was able to use it with Virtual Box.

But still can't download 2.9.96 USB image file ( to boot from USB stick on my Desktop)

If I click the USB one, it's bringing me back to the same place I originally registered to receive a download link 24 hours later..

As for the forum, you are right, discourse is expensive... But did you tried recently the Web Version and Linux app for Telegram forums ? Telegram could be a good replacement for your CHat tool ?

Yeah it should be perfectly working now, but if you see something similar again please inform me :)

I have tried telegram in phone and in web, its a nice (visual) thing, but there's also some flaws, like much easier to spam and not an easy way to avoid that, also requires a web, which is today a major problem talking about resources consuming and support (deprecated 32-bit support in every browser)
