FS#701 - Audio and Video tunning needed 2.9.97 HP Compaq 8200 Elite Small Form Factor

Hello

1. Being able to change sound output without having to close apps for change to take effect ?
- I booted with 2.9.97.
- by default, sound was going out from my speaker connected to the built-In audio card on the pc.
No problems here. May be a visual indicator ( if easy) if we increase or decrease the volume would be nice. Not so important

BUT (PROBLEM 1) : Using AUDIO CONFIGURATOR If i change the sound output from PCH:HDA Intel PCH (Built in audio card) to “H540 Logitech USB HEadset 540” 1 need to close FIreFox ans chrome and open them again for the change of to take effect. I don’t know if it is a kernel thing but OS Itried, we can choose from where the sound comes out without having to close our apps.

Also : once I changed to Logitech Headset The Volume up key on the keyboard or on the headset do not work, it open the Sound Selector windows every time I press volume keys and if I close those windows, for each, I am getting an ERROR WINDOWS " Application Execution Error Windows”

PROBLEM 2: Even if I choose the logitech USB heasdet in the OS and in Vokoscreen, microphone does not work. Not recording my voice

2. VIDEO : How to I choose on which monitor the Application bar ( Panel ) at the bottom of the screen show up ? Be default is is showing up on the monitor on the LEFT but I want to have it on the other monitor ( one is HDMI the other VGA connecor in case it help)

Can you show me the output of this command?

EL_DEBUG=3  audio-configurator --auto --quiet ; cat /proc/asound/cards

restarting applications is needed to take effect, yes

USB audio volumes: can you change the volumes from the "mixer volumes" application too? if you can change it, it should also work for the keyboard hotkeys (tell me if is not the case so i will need to fix that)

problem 2: which is the audio card where you expect to have input microphone sound?

Video: you can configure this by selecting "which" of the both screens is the "primary" one, on that one goes the bar, if im not wrong

EL_DEBUG=3 audio-configurator –auto –quiet ; cat /proc/asound/cards
RESULT :
D: [ /usr/bin/audio-configurator +130 ] there is multiple cards found
D: [ /usr/bin/audio-configurator +231 ] we selected the card from the list (amount of tracks :: card):

14 :: PCH
1 :: C525
4 :: H540
D: [ /usr/bin/audio-configurator +296 ] the card C525 is a good candidate for the extra microphone configuration
D: [ /usr/bin/audio-configurator +296 ] the card H540 is a good candidate for the extra microphone configuration
D: [ /usr/bin/audio-configurator +296 ] the card PCH is a good candidate for the extra microphone configuration
D: [ /usr/bin/audio-configurator +327 ] configuring a different mic source to PCH
0 [PCH ]: HDA-Intel - HDA Intel PCH

                    HDA Intel PCH at 0xfe420000 irq 48

1 [C525 ]: USB-Audio - HD Webcam C525

                    HD Webcam C525 at usb-0000:00:1a.0-1.3, high speed

2 [H540 ]: USB-Audio - Logitech USB Headset H540

                    Logitech Inc Logitech USB Headset H540 at usb-0000:00:1a.0-1.5, full speed

USB audio volumes: can you change the volumes from the "mixer volumes" application too? if you can change it, it should also work for the keyboard hotkeys (tell me if is not the case so i will need to fix that)

ANSWER : Yes the Application called Volume Control allow me to adjust volume on Headset but volume keyboard keys do not work with headset...They do work if I choose the soundcard as output

Microphone, does not work with headset

problem 2: which is the audio card where you expect to have input microphone sound?

Video: you can configure this by selecting "which" of the both screens is the "primary" one, on that one goes the bar, if im not wrong

ANSWER :
As for screen :
I was using ARandR to configure screens, as "screen setup" GUI does not allow me to make one monitor the extension of the other.. By default, mirroring.

Once in ARandR, i setup the 2 monitor to not be in mirror, THEN I need to open a 2nd app "screen setup" to choose which one is the primary one, it doens't work after I click apply. Be be I need to logout but as I am in live mode, if I log out, the screen setup comes back to what it was

Only one APP to decide the configuration and which is the default would be simpler for non technical people.

YOU : problem 2: which is the audio card where you expect to have input microphone sound?

ME : the only microphone I have is the Headset microphone USB Logithech headset

Video now ok too.
I used ARandR manuel command from the command line to default the right monitor
Tks !
