a problem for elive 1.9.56 and earlier versions up from about 1.9.30: (where older versions did not have this problem, but i don’t know exactly)

description:
the startup elive sound is much too loud (almost breaking the speakers)

on Lenovo R61i (and probably other laptops of this brand)
on DELL Latitude C540 (and also other laptops of this brand)

i found a workaround:
after selection of language you add nosound to the command line options
then the sound will be just audible but not annoy your neighbourhood.

on other computers like Apple MacMini or Samsung the sound level is ok.

on Apple iMac elive does not sound at all.

Hi,
I am using elive_2.1.58_alpha_hybrid from live CD (not installed)

I want to kick the pre-installed chromium browser as it not usable with this lot of annoying ads.
So I remove it using synaptics, but df or free displays even more RAM in use, so I do not know whether it is really gone.

Then I can install iceweasel (or iceape) using synaptics and they are working fine also with noscript.

Would it be possible to pre-install iceweasel or iceape instead of chromium?

Please upgrade to the new enlightenment, this version is completely obsolete.

In my installation of elive 1.7.8 nvidia drivers work offering only a 800×600 definition.
Installing nvidia-xconfig packages and running it fixes the resolution but breaks glx
Seems the DCC is not properly working.

Hello i tested the 1.8.5 installed on my eeepc and found a bunch of bugs:

• exalt doesn’t recognizes interfaces, so is not possible to connect to anything

• during bootup i had a loop where messages ran very fast on the screen, to fix i had to hard reboot, didn’t happen again yet...this was happening also in 1.8.4

• thunar doesn’t mount devices, no usb pen, nor the usb SD card reader of the eeepc, they are not even seen by thunar

• trying to disable then re-enable exalt results in E17 segfault

• the cpufreq module is unable to change the governor

Beside that the system seems stable, however i can’t test it since no connection to internet.

i noticed that the default way elive boots on eeepc is in spanish language!!! i think this is an error, it should boot in english!!

Livecd crashes randomly several times, if a crash occurs during upgrade of the system, all the upgrade process is lost and it works as a clean install on next reboot.
I have been unable to test the upgrade feature since eeepc has crashed 4-4 times during the upgrade of the system, thus losing all data of users and password.

The new kernel has fixed the broken headers issue according to debian buglist and to #debian.
I would suggest to switch asap to .26 and start providing headers as well

According to the ppl in #eeepc the cpu of the eeepc4g doesn’t support speedstep and they advised me to disable p4-clockmod since can cause unstability.
I found also on wiki.eeeuser.com that the default clock of the eeepc is 630mhz and is not possible to change it in any way (but there is an experimental linux kernel module to bring up to 900mhz the clock, at a cost of unstability).
this needs investigation, if its true, then it should be advisable to remove the modules from the eeepc special install...
w/o p4-clockmod my system seems very responsive while on battery, and the duration of the battery seems unchanged: 2.50h.
I suggest to make some test with the eeepc, i am doing the same.

After upgrading my elive i noticed that XV video was no longer playable in mplayer.
Fiddled around till i found the reason the
Option “VideoOverlay” “on”
which i had in my previous xorg.conf was missing in the new one
I added it under Section “Device” restarted it and the XV is working again
moreover now changing desktop with animation is far faster and more fluid.

i confirm that 1.9.20-1.9.21 kernel panic during bootup when using the latest nonfree virtualbox (2.1.0).
This happens on an Athlon Xp 2200, on a centrino 1.4Ghz which have different versions of elive installed:
The athlon has 1.9.20 upgraded and the centrino has 1.9.18 dist-upped to current.

more and more often when i open small windows such as pidgin or amsn e17 puts them on the border of the screen so that i can see only a tiny piece...
i have then to grab then and move to a better position.
I don’t know if is smth related to wrong settings but for sure i didn’t have this is gnome and it doesn’t look nice..

This is the second time i experience the following problem:
if i set powersave governor, and leave the pc on overnight
the next morning the mouse pointer has disappeared
everything works, but i have no mouse pointer.
i have to open a terminal as root and reboot in order to regain control of the system.
This happens only with powersave governor or userspace fixed at the lowest speed (600 over 1300)

for fglrx is needed to disable atieventsd from loading because it crashes X at logout.

Thunar doesn’t correctly umount any memory device, especially if has more than one partition.
Moreover it leaves empty directories in /media/ once the device has been unplugged

tried to start the x11vnc server tru elpanel, is not possible to connect to it from another machine.
If tried to start x11vnc from elpanel called via ssh, then it shows a message telling that the server is closed.
Thus is not possible to VNC into an elive machine.

A tool for changing user and groups preferences is not available in elive even if it shows in the menu.

I noticed twice that my eeepc becames unresponsive after a few wifi disconnections, this happens using wicd or exalt.
Wicd stops telling it is trying to clean the routing table, exalt instead doesn’t show any particular message
From then every keyboard event is ignored, all the hotkey combination are not working
Could be a kernel panic since is not possible to do anything else than an hard reboot, the system appears freezed at the maximum CPU speed.

When using elive on an eeepc exalt doesn’t work correctly:

• It doesn’t show the quality of signal giving always minimum signal

• It doesn’t show open or encrypted access point showing and treating all of them as encrypted

It would be also nice to have a small gui for ndiswrapper, an ncurses one would be nice, so that user can find the inf file and install comfortably from a gui.

Some programs (amsn on top of all) request the device /dev/sound/dsp and /dev/sound/mixer
both are missing in the latest elive
then no sound is possible.

Its needed to make the shutdown prioritary on the sleep mode. Most of the time if i select shutdown, then close the lid, the pc goes into sleep instead of shutdown..
shutdown on eeepc can take up to 20 secs it should disable every suspend once the shutdown process is triggered

i tried to upgrade my 1.9.16 install on the eeepc, with unetbootin and an sd card i tried as usual to install elive. this time the installer doesnt detect my installed system and doesnt offer to upgrade it.
thus proceeding as a fresh install.
installation was aborted by me to prevent overwriting my hdd.
