FS#149 - Feature Request

NOT A BUG - Request for feature

You guys will probably get tired of hearing from me, but I love the OS, and what you guys have done with it... so I can’t help but to suggest and try to make it better.

  • Sound Icon on desktop (like the power icon)
  • Wireless Icon on desktop

I think these new widgets may actually add to the value of the OS. Ease of use is what users want, and Elive is on the right track!

Recommendations are OK, we dont’ are tired (of course if are good recomendations :))

Those are future features of Elive, yes, own modules of e17 for Elive

Do you have other recommendations of those kind of usefull “icons on the desktop” ?

Thanatermesis... thank you for the reply.

If you look at the mainstream OS‘s out there, they are doing something that seems to be useful and appealing to the user. Some may think that things on the desktop may clutter the desktop, but in Elive there is nothing on the desktop... so it is a perfect playground. Here’s what I am thinking:

Take a look at the options Windows Vista/ Apple / Yahoo Widgets has for desktop “toys,” out of all of them, there are some useful ones:

  • Desktop Memory
  • CPU Usuage
  • Sound Control
  • WIFI connectivity
  • Local Weather Panel
  • Widget for Instant Messaging (AOL, MSN, etc)

Other than the appeal of having the widget type “icons” for the desktop... I like the menu in Apple that dissapears at the bottom, and gets bigger as you hover over it and shows the name of what it is. This is a really nice feature and I thing E16 has some of that in there... but it does not hide. I think if the program menu at the bottom were to act like an Apple type menu... that would be nice.

Something else I have thought about. I like the right click and left click menus... but feel they get in the way sometimes. Click too many times and they come up and go away, and you end up clicking on something you didn’t mean to click on. What about making a Slide menu of somesort that would contain these right click and left click options, while allowing you to turn off the right/left click menu access.

This is all I can think of at the moment, but I am sure the more I play with it... the more ideas I will have. Thanks again Thanatermesis!!

Very good suggestions, i like them and i think such suggestions will give Elive a very nice Look, and will make it more effective and useful to use.
