FS#208 - Fatal server error: no screens found

I’ve just tried to use the Elive 1.7.9 unstable LiveCD version, but the X Window system doesn’t work at all. I’ve tried all kind of workable configurations for my monitor and even tried to boot with the “Video Problems” option. It doesn’t matter what i do, the message it gives me is the following:

(EE) No devices detected.

Fatal server error:
no screens found

Just for beeing more specific, i’ve used the EliveGem 1.0 LiveCD version and it works very well, on the same pc with the same especifications. Also, i’m using the 1.7.9 LiveCD version on a virtual machine and everything is just fine (but it’s actually another computer, i know).

Here are some especifications of my computer, where the graphical interface of 1.7.9 development version didn’t work:

Chipset: VIA 8VM800M
Bios: P4M80P
Graphics adapter: VIA/S3G UniChrome Pro IGP
Video Monitor: LG Flatron ez T530S
Processor: Pentium 4 2.8GHz
Network: VIA Rhine II Fast Ethernet Adapter
RAM: 768MB

I guess i could help you, and i hope everything i’m telling you will be usefull. Anyway, bellow is also the Xorg log file that i’ve saved on my Ubuntu partition, before i restarted the PC. I’m ready to help on any direction. Thanks and good job, developers, Elive is wonderfull!!

Still happening with the last development version ? (1.9.32)

Does it work if you try to configure it from the front-end configurator out of X ?

Admin

also, try to use a xorg.conf configuration file from another linux system where it works

gasha commented on 15.07.2009 21:57

Also happens in latest Development version. (1.9.33)
During bootup on EEE PC 701. Not sure why it does work inside Vmware.
I resolved it this way:
1) Alt-F2, login as root / no password
2) X -configure; mv xorg.conf.new /etc/X11/xorg.conf;
3) switch back to Alt-F1 and restart X.

Admin

There was a problem with the generation of the xorg.conf file can you please try if that happens with an updated version of the iso ? this was fixed on a recent one
