FS#23 - IPod causes two instances of Thunar to start

When I plug in my IPod it causes two instances of Thunar to open. This is a rather trivial, but annoying bug, as I immediately have to close one instance of Thunar and click cancel when it asks me to if I wish to unmount the device.
I think it would be better if Thunar didn’t open when I insert my IPod. Instead GTKPod could handle IPods and other mp3 players by default instead of Thunar as most people won’t use Thunar for IPod management (as it can’t sync, read, etc.) only GTKPod.

Try the next build 0.6.7 (dev), needs to works like a charm :)

What model of ipod ?

What names appear (2 diferents, i think) on /media mounted dirs ?

It’s a 1st generation ipod nano. /media shows only IPOD right now, sometimes it shows /media/sda2/ too. Thunar doesn’t properly umount the Ipod and I think this is a UDEV issue in Debian based on several bug reports I’ve read. Thunar needs to umount and eject the Ipod for it to be disconnected properly. If I want to properly and safely remove my Ipod I run umount /dev/sda && eject /dev/sda.

udev has been fixed. So now it’s just stopping Thunar from opening up two instances one that opens up /home/user and the other one that opens /media/IPOD

Perfect, I need some logs then, edit $HOME/.ivman/launcher.sh and add a line set -x after the first line (new 2º line then), kill -9 ivman, launch from your user ivman -d –nofork 2>$HOME/ipod-launcher-logs.txt 1>&2 and send me the ipod-launcher-logs.txt resultant file after to plug the ipod (press control + C before to unplug it)

OK. I’ll do this when I get my ipod in a few days. For the record when I said udev was fixed, I meant that it has been fixed in Debian Sid.

Admin

And in Debian etch/testing ? (who Elive uses), what is your version of udev ? (apt-cache policy udev)

I am not sure. This was fixed in Sid about 2 days ago (I am also running a Debian Sid box), so I’m sure it will trickle down to testing soon.

for my elive box:
root@elive[/home/lontra]# apt-cache policy udev
udev:

Installed: 0.093-1
Candidate: 0.100-2.3
Version table:
   0.100-2.3 0
      500 http://ftp.us.debian.org testing/main Packages

*** 0.093-1 0

      100 /var/lib/dpkg/status

Here’s the output from that command. I am not sure if it’s what you want though. There is nothing about my ipod in here.
