FS#36 - Booting from Firewire DVD-Recorder not possible.

This bug, which I earlier posted for “Revolution”, occurs in 0.5 dev as well.

The live cd does not boot from a firewire dvd-recorder; at least not the one which came with my Acer Travelmate 3012wtmi.

Both Debian and Ubuntu boot with no problem at all (Debian used to have the same problem before, though) and in Gentoo, it works when the “doscsi” kernel argument is passed. I have not successfully booted Elive with this drive, however.

I don not think this will be a problem very hard to fix; it just needs to be detected ;).

I will try the latest Elive as well (downloading now) and report, but I don not expect it to work, since this bug is not mentioned on the “Fixed Bugs” list.

Please test if this bug is still present on latest release of Elive

Booting from a firewire DVD is a special stuff, anyways very posible, if is not included the feature, maybe needs to are included, do you know names of liveCDs where works ?

Download this ISO and see if boots with it, this iso is the next DSS to use Elive soon

On all the liveCDs of works you need the command doscsi ?

Can you paste the exact message of where it stop to boot ?

The Debian Live cd worked well. :)

No, I do not have to use “doscsi” on any distribution other than Gentoo.

The messages when it stops booting are just outputs saying it is searching through all possible /dev/sdxx devices, repeating infinitly, it seems.

The feature needs to be are implemented, but the boot (livecd system) of Elive can be are changed soon, please add your email in infomail: http://elivecd.org/gb/infomail and wait a new release (dev) with a change in DSS, then the new system of boot are changed, and more exactly, are the same system used by Debian liveCD, then is very posible to works directly, allways, is needed a tester for know if works :)

Please try the comming soon next development release of Elive, the problem seems fixed

New dev. version released, please try if boots from it http://dev.elivecd.org/wiki/DevelRelease

I’m sorry, but I quite recently sold the computer with its DVD-recorder and am therefore unable to test it...

If the new relese is based on Debian Etch, Lenny or Sid, it should work, however... :)

I’ll try Elive on my new computer, the Sony Vaio UX1-XN - I bet the touchscreen and some other stuff doesn’t work out of the box (they haven’t in any other linux distro, so...)

Cheers,
Talyz
