FS#416 - net-connector: some lot of tests with possible bugs (please try to reproduce them before to confirm)

This is a bunch of tests, please see if you can reproduce these problems and if happens to you too, add a comment on this ticket

Details and steps

There’s a strange way to manage multiple interfaces with net-connector, looks like that ticket about “mess with multiple interfaces” stills here, I think that I can reproduce it without problems, let me explain my steps so that you can try yourself:

  • First of all, daemon stopped, all configurations cleaned up, the wired cable is plugged, and the computer rebooted (aparently the wireless will keep the used ip, we want a clean conf in the interfaces, so reboot)
  • The system boots, the daemon is started automatically, and i have connection to internet automatically via my wired cable, ok, this is good.
  • Now I want to move this laptop to the bed so i unplug the wired cable and open net-connector interface, trying to configure my wireless: I select my ESSID, put the password, and keep it with dhcp for now, clicked “connect” and (after to wait a bit IMHO) i reach the connection with my wifi

BUG: Actually i can connect to internet but I least my first pings to google are VERY slow, i think that this is what one of the tickets in the BTS has tried to say, who has need to force the other interfaces down. Also, if im not wrong, there’s two route’s set:

Note: I think that when the “connect” button is clicked, NC should disconnect the other interfaces (we want to use only one in order to have internet, right?), or maybe just the “route’s”

  • Next step: I disconnect the wifi, I plug the wired cable and i click to connect (wired) (note, if is already connected after to plug it, click to disconnect first and then click to connect), then i disconnect it (wired), ill go again to the wireless network (with the wired cable plugged), I select my ESSID and try to connect it: BUG not possible, i see the status progress bar that searches and searches without possible to connect (the ‘route’ command don’t shows any route)

Warning: In my second test i was not unable to reproduce it (only one time in 2 tests), but may the cause be that i have not reproduced the things step by step like is explained before (included the reboot)

  • Another test: now im not connected with anything; i unplug the wired cable (actually set to disconnected), then I go again to the wifi section and try to connect, no way... same problem. Another test: I open a terminal and run “ifconfig eth0 down” (eth0 = wired), and try again to connect with wifi, no way. Another test: trying with “ifconfig ath0 down ; ifconfig ath0 up”, same thing, can’t connects...
  • Ok now i close the interface of net-connector, wait 3 seconds and open it again, unfortunately i don’t see the ESSIDs listed so im obliged to click in the “scan” button, then i select my essid again and click to “connect”, and now finally it was able to connect not really a bug but very strange, let me explore a bit more...

Computer used: macbook (yes, with a bit delicated/buggy driver, so please try to reproduce this on other machine)
