You mean to the selector of Elive where you have fglrx, radeon and vesa needs to have added ati too ?
Not really, ATI is a graphic card to on linux not works very well (and a card to i blame very times), i don’t think to has a real solution, just sometimes works better than others
If is needed to add ati on the list, is not a problem
mach64 src is in ati driver but as default it is not enabled (not compiled into module). So, even if you select ati as your choice it’s not working...
Recompile ati driver with mach64 enabled and it works!
where exactly you mean to mach64 needs to be enabled ?
Hi!
I had the same problem with my graphic chipset.
“lspci | grep VGA” says : 01.00,0 VGA compatible controller: ATI technologies Inc 3D Rage Pro AGP 1X/2X (Rev 5c)
First I was unable to boot with the liveCD, I had to use the “fail/safe mode”. It was impossible for me to use the radeon or fglrx driver (crash) and I had to choose Vesa to boot. I used the solution upper : as root into a terminal, I used “dpkg-reconfigure xserver-xorg” and I choose the preselected ATI driver. It worked and I was able to reboot. But I was enable to change the “generic monitor” into “Smile cromaclear” and I can’t change the monitor’s frequency rate (60Hz...). Before, with the Vesa driver driver, even if it always was a “generic monitor” I was able to use the 85Hz mode.
Now my xorg.conf says:
Section “Device”
EndSection
Section “Monitor”
EndSection
Section “Screen”
Do you have any solution?
Thanks for the excellent job you all did with this beautiful distribution!!

New drivers options needs to be added on the list of choices for ATI, for examply ati, I still without know anything about mach64, can somebody please tell me what one is needed to use for those mach64 cards ? Aparently r128 needs to be added too
Please, everybody that has any of those cards, post a comment here with the result of lspci | grep VGA, telling me the name of the driver that needs to use on xorg.conf
the chameleon, your system only works if you set the xorg.conf at 16 colors ? or you can use 24 ?
the chameleon, can you reply me this to know if i need to change the colors value detection in elive ?
thx
