FS#711 - MutiScreen error message

Just booted and received :
XRandR failed:
XRandR returned error code 1: xrandr: cannot find crtc for output VGA1

If I open the screen config tool and try to configure again, I hit apply and still get

XRandR failed:
XRandR returned error code 1: xrandr: cannot find crtc for output VGA1

any idea ?

SOLVED

RESTARTED THe Desktop Config ( choose country etc etc)
used the screen config tool
and now I am ok.

IF the problem comes back, I will let you know
JF
BTW After Restart of the Desktop config :

I tried to setup the screen resolution and monitor position at the same time and CLick APPLY. We can't do that.. if we do that, monitor get the right resolution but come back into mirror mode Then we need to configure again to change the monitors/screen positions So it is a 2 steps process

Rebooted and just got the errror message that started all that :

Failed to load your screens configuration. You can try to reconfigure your screens with different options.

Error message: xrandr: cannot find crtc for output VGA1

From configuration: /home/jfbourdeau/.screenlayout/jf.sh

restarted desktop config
whhen opening the screen config tool,. the 2 monitor were in mirroring

placed the VGA on the left, HDMI on the right APPLY
Left monitor Dissapeared ( Need to activate it back)

Will try to bring everything back

Screen config tool frozed... Need to kill it

ok I am not able to bring back my config to work properly
Will wait for instructions

in fact im a bit confused about the exact problem lol

does the last lines of "dmesg" shows any useful thing? (any error or similar)

as said before, make sure that you are not using GL accelerated or ecomorph (which is also GL) for stability purposes (on some hardware works good and may bug in others)

" make sure that you are not using GL accelerated "
If I don't use it ( GL) , the screen configuration tool does not work.

will reboot in elive and run dmesg

Admin

This is very strange, should be not related at all the GL with this... if a graphic card is able to deliver X resolution or to X monitors it should be able to do it with GL or not, hum...

(in any case it sounds like an issue related to hardware capabilities, if is not a problem of the tool)

the only way to know that is to try the same steps in different hardware

ok after restarting 2 times the desktop config, now screen ok
will reboot to see.

as for dmesg you want the output of that ? Here ?

Before I forget if I log without hardware acceleration, screen config tool does not work... I am loosing the VGA screen every time

Admin
as for dmesg you want the output of that ? Here ?

Only if you see something useful on the last lines, like an error message

Where: here, if is not much lines or in a pastebin website instead

Before I forget if I log without hardware acceleration, screen config tool does not work... I am loosing the VGA screen every time

I should need to do a test in my hardware (which was with GL) but i dont think that should change anything, hardwares doesn't expect to run in GL by default, and thats why i said it sounds like a hardware problem... more exactly in the graphic card, do you have a different graphic card to try this with?

ok I am now back with the right config... I don't know " how that mess " happened

For now the only thing I can reproduce that is not working, is booting with Hardware acceleration disabled... Everything, 200% of the time, screen configuration does not work well

I don't care as long as I keep my screen config using the Hardware Accelered checkbox checked (openGL) that works better for me...
