Thanks to the report of DronAn[BY], aparently the connect and disconnect buttons has dissapeared, there’s a few screenshots:

The reason of this is the russian language that screws something somewhere... there’s an error message found in the terminal:
UnicodeDecodeError: 'ascii' codec can't decode byte 0xd0 in position 0: ordinal not in range(128)
I don’t know the reason of why this affects the button and no other parts of the interface (see screenshot), but for now, since this is a very important bug (some ppl will not connect!), i have just disabled from gettext the message that broke this :) (note: the broking thing is not the button message but other element, please see the commit in this ticket comments)

Task Description
After to upgrade net-connector im unable to use it (daemon not running aparently), the daemon doesn’t want to start (init.d) because there’s teh file /var/run/net-connectord.pid existing, if this doesn’t do any problem, i will recommend to remove it at every “stop” action of the daemon (+ kill/close any possible daemon running), maybe also at every “start” of the daemon ? so i dont think that there will be a problem to restart the daemon (connection doesn’t drops, if im not wrong)

It is needed to set some extra configurations for when there’s Intel cards in Elive Compiz:
change mplayer conf to use X11 (or GL is better option?), and set the zoom ON
Update: set the X11 or GL as a choice for the user (in case of any elive-compiz, not only intel), explaining how to configure it later and what’s the difference between them
xine: use xshm or gl output (ask to the user too, or better, include the answer of the previous question for selection there too)

Task Description
The spaces on the ESSID is not fully supported, on some pieces of the interface (list of essid’s and status) are only show the first word, the good point is that it does connect correctly here (essid is “scg & volcanica”), but the status looks like are not correctly showed (like it not connected).
This is a minor-preference bug

Task Description
Somebody has reported me that recently, no one of its computers will connect to internet automatically (wired), after to talk a bit with him i have discover that he has just set a own profile name to their connections (instead to keep the default name)
Cause: He has changed the default profile to other name
This could be a very common problem, the users don’t know that they needs to use the name default in order to have it to autoconnect or it will not work.
Fix: What I think that could be a good fix is to don’t permit the user to change the name default on the profile, until there’s actually a profile called default existing and that has the autoconnect set to Yes. Any better idea ?

I will need a sample line of the root file / etc/shadow in order to know how to detect it

Details and steps
There’s a strange way to manage multiple interfaces with net-connector, looks like that ticket about “mess with multiple interfaces” stills here, I think that I can reproduce it without problems, let me explain my steps so that you can try yourself:
First of all, daemon stopped, all configurations cleaned up, the wired cable is plugged, and the computer rebooted (aparently the wireless will keep the used ip, we want a clean conf in the interfaces, so reboot)
The system boots, the daemon is started automatically, and i have connection to internet automatically via my wired cable, ok, this is good.
Now I want to move this laptop to the bed so i unplug the wired cable and open net-connector interface, trying to configure my wireless: I select my ESSID, put the password, and keep it with dhcp for now, clicked “connect” and (after to wait a bit IMHO) i reach the connection with my wifi
BUG: Actually i can connect to internet but I least my first pings to google are VERY slow, i think that this is what one of the tickets in the BTS has tried to say, who has need to force the other interfaces down. Also, if im not wrong, there’s two route’s set:

Note: I think that when the “connect” button is clicked, NC should disconnect the other interfaces (we want to use only one in order to have internet, right?), or maybe just the “route’s”
Next step: I disconnect the wifi, I plug the wired cable and i click to connect (wired) (note, if is already connected after to plug it, click to disconnect first and then click to connect), then i disconnect it (wired), ill go again to the wireless network (with the wired cable plugged), I select my ESSID and try to connect it: BUG not possible, i see the status progress bar that searches and searches without possible to connect (the ‘route’ command don’t shows any route)
Warning: In my second test i was not unable to reproduce it (only one time in 2 tests), but may the cause be that i have not reproduced the things step by step like is explained before (included the reboot)
Another test: now im not connected with anything; i unplug the wired cable (actually set to disconnected), then I go again to the wifi section and try to connect, no way... same problem. Another test: I open a terminal and run “ifconfig eth0 down” (eth0 = wired), and try again to connect with wifi, no way. Another test: trying with “ifconfig ath0 down ; ifconfig ath0 up”, same thing, can’t connects...
Ok now i close the interface of net-connector, wait 3 seconds and open it again, unfortunately i don’t see the ESSIDs listed so im obliged to click in the “scan” button, then i select my essid again and click to “connect”, and now finally it was able to connect not really a bug but very strange, let me explore a bit more...
Computer used: macbook (yes, with a bit delicated/buggy driver, so please try to reproduce this on other machine)

Task Description
There’s a big problem with the updates of the system that will broke the graphical system, this bug has Critical severity
The problem is that, if you upgrade your system, it will update the GLX package of your ati/nvidia drivers, this means, that you will have a X version of the kernel with an ati (or nvidia) module in the version Y, that is incompatible with the updated version Z of the GLX package
To solve that problem, I have used all this time a block (hold mark) of the GLX package (the user should have the same kernel all the time)
But the problem is, for example, that if the user update the system that include an updated kernel, and an update of the ati kernel module, the GLX package for ati is not updated so it is incompatible and the user can’t reach the graphical system
Actual case: updated system: update the kernel, but the packages fglrx-driver, fglrx-glx and fglrx-kernel-2.3.26.8-elive-686 are holded, so not updated, the kernel can’t simply load that old version of the ati driver and the user can’t reach the graphical system
If we hold the packages, there’s the problem that everything needs to be updated (so, do not hold anything) in order to work correctly. But if we don’t lock them, also if the user upgrade the system, will use the same version of the kernel, so then the ati GLX package will be updated and not work with the old kernel/module, the only solution for that and everything is that update the version of the kernel too (with a virtual-package for example)... this was requested by some users but, it is a good idea ? what happens if a user dont want to update his kernel ? what about if a version of the kernel mades the computer of a user to NOT boot or not work ? and finally... the grub menu needs to be updated on that case then
