Eltrans was the easiest way to get big parts of the os translated for free. It needs to go live again, so what is the problem that prevents it from working? Is there any way we could write a new version of it so you do not need to waste your time? In that case, what are your requiremetns and what kind of interface should we give it so that it can just be put in place of the older one?

Latest version (2.8.6 Beta) . Be good to have possibility to boot into UEFI (not only standard BIOS).
A self signed key is fine as 90% of machines will allow this.

Notes: self signed key is the requirement for the “Secure Boot” part

Would it be possible to feature ‘Silk’ as an installable theme? There has been an update called ‘Silk and lots of colors’ but that can be added later– the original silk would be enough to attract more users and or testers. That way, Elive will not be ‘just another distro with enlightenment’, but it will be known as the ‘greatest looking distro with enlightenment, with all the bells* and whistles**!! (i am referring to ecomorph, of course).

This way we can encourage people to donate, because it is one-of-a-kind :)

(The boot-up process of ‘Silk’ has the prettier plymouth screen, IMNSHO. i would switch boot messages off, the office could be on fire, and fire trucks and ambulances all around, people would be yelling, HEY there’s a man in here staring at his computer!!)

Mouse and wifi (Intel® Dual-Band Wireless-AC 8265?) not being detected (in live move) on Dell Latitude 7480 i7
a usb mouse plugged into the laptop is a work around.

The startup menus (keyboard settings etc) are not usable with just the keyboard, you need a mouse at this stage to start the distro

In my old nettop ‘Acer aspire one’, the inserted SD memory card of my photo camera doesn’t shows in emodule-places unless “only ermovable devices” option is unset

Seems like we need to specify these values in cases that it is one of these cards, but in any case is needed to debug the output to see what it looks like

By some reason the first boot doesn’t allows the user to suspend/hiberante, what is the cause?

* try with e23 first boot
* try with reboot after post-install of eliveinstaller

When I open software center I get a error warning say (something went wrong sorry). And also when theres updates the same software center says (Failed to install file: not supported). Not a programmer so hope someone can figure what is going on I noticed there is a newer version of gnome software center available but I don,t know how to install manually. Wish it could be in the software center repository somehow.

I’d liked to test elive’s minimum requirements putting together some of the oldest piecies of hardware i have lying aroud.
I begun trying it out with a old motherboard, a sf2/661fx rev 1.1, which features sis integrated graphics/sis 964l (which is pretty common in old pentium 4 based office desktop computers), mounting a ‘01 2.44 GHz pentium 4 (https://ark.intel.com/products/27438/Intel-Pentium-4-Processor-2_40-GHz-512K-Cache-533-MHz-FSB), 512 mb 266mhz ddr ram and a classical ide hdd.
It looked like a possible common set up for older computers, and i was surprised finding out that there was no way to boot in graphical mode! None of the options given, either in pae or older kernel, not even the special graphics failing mode!
Then i added a vanta 16 (which i noticed in here was a often times used cheap af graphics card in older pentium 4s, as it was the msi nvidia tnt2 riva m64/m64 pro, which gave me the same results as the vanta being based on the same hw/drivers). Despite if i’m not mistaken it was supposed to support 76xx drivers (which should be avaialble in the repos), i needed to switch to the free drivers. It let me choose keyboard language and system language correctly., then when getting to the desktop it gave me a black screen :/ the mouse was visible though, so i think there must be a workaround (i will try to find it as soon as i have time)
then moved to geforce 2 mx200/mx400. Supposed to work fine with either legacy drivers 76xx or 96xx, both gave me several graphical errors. nosense screen resolution (like 600×480) and i was unable to use either the dock or the applications menu. Terminal took forever to open and everything was mostly unusable. Tried again with all the boot options, looks like working fine only using the free drivers options (both with the newer and older kernel). No graphics acceleration available, even if in windows 98 graphics acceleration was available.
Using the software acceleration caused a heavy load on the poor p4, which meant random freezes whenever it had to open an heavy application/installing something with apt-get (and the bottleneck wasn’t the ram or some sort of swapping, never hit 300 mbs of used ram!). Tried switching to e16, nothing changed.
The machine worked perfectly (and same for all the graphics options listed here)under windows 98/xp and debian stretch with i3-wm. Only issue was the sis chipset unable to elaborated 3d graphics for a lack of compatible drivers in linux, but i’ve been running q4os (debian jessie, later stretch, + TDE at the time) without having too much troubles. DE worked perfectly, at least

Hola! Tengo tres problemas:

1- Al cerrar sesión el sistema se bloquea.

2- Cuando pongo el equipo en suspensión o le doy a hibernar, me ocurre que al volver al escritorio Internet no funciona y si reinicio todo vuelve a la normalidad, esto ya me pasaba con el sistema estable.

3- Cuando intento actualizar no me deja y todo es darle al botón pero ahí se queda sin poder actualizar.

Al ingresar a la utilidad de discos, se puede ver sin problema el disco duro y sus particiones. Pero a la hora de dar clic en “Montar”, se monta aparentemente en una ruta pero dicha ruta no existe. En otras palabras si monto el disco desde la utilidad de discos, el disco supuestamente se monta pero no se puede acceder a él desde la ruta que muestra en pantalla.

Ahora si ingreso al administrador de archivos, ahi se puede ver las particiones del disco y se puede acceder. Pero si doy a montar en la utilidad de discos, curiosamente se desmonta en el administrador de archivos. Ahí está el error.

Y este error ya lo he visto en versiones anteriores, pero en esta última sigue ese mismo problema. Y el error se presenta en cualquier maquina que se quiera probar el elivecd.

I downloaded Elive beta (2.9.94) usb image, and booted it on a HP uefi enabled haswell laptop (most other components a intel ones). I am greeted with a black screen.

It mentions Xeon but I promise, its a Haswell I’m sure you will need more logs to track the issue. Just let me know where to find them (Ctrl-Alt-F2) gives me a prompt.

It looks like Gdebi-gtk is unable to install .deb files since (at least) elive 3.8.1.
THese are the reports from the forum:
“gdebi gui does not work, exits without doing anything, invoking this installation with terminal goes off well without problems”

“It dies silently without giving any errors”

The lack of sudo rights was excluded by Thanatermesis since users should be able to handle packages without requiring any root privilege by default (though further testing do not support this theory), moreover it looks like an Thunar related Issue.
A video is attached, showing me trying to “reinstall package” and “remove package” from the gtk. In both cases, as stated above, gdebi dies silently. Downloading the package from the main repository gives no issues (looks like). The same happens when installing a fresh program.
After trying with gdebi gtk, i run gdebi within a terminal. Without sudo rights, it exists without error stating “you need administrator rights!”, while running it with sudo installs the package without issues.
Need to find the roots of this evil behaviour to allow average users to install packages without requiring terminal knowledge.

Could be nice if we have an e17 module to limit the windows to be in the screen limits, instead to pass over it. This is a useful feature for non-experienced users.

Note: this report has somewhere (i dont remember where) a list of features needed, like which options to have on it (like: limit the windows to be in-screen, limit the windows to be not entirely out of the screen, allow the window to be partially out, etc etc), is needed to check this list first (in hackers or in dev ? i dont remember right now)

Hi,
I use elive installed on a Dell D410 laptop with Broadcom BCM4311 wifi card. I can see networks, but I’m unable to connect to anyone because dhclient is unable to obtain an IP address.
I tried other wifi cards (Realtek, D-Link), and it is always same problem. All these cards are supported by Debian Lenny or Ubuntu 8.04.
I really like elive and wouldn’t go back to Lenny because of this wifi problem.

After upgrade system from ISO the volume setup to 100% - too loud for the first time..

If we are already connected to internet is useless to scan about networks, disable the scan until we are disconnected (the non-stop scanning thing makes that some wireless drivers blocks and a reboot is required to recover the connection)

Cinelerra won’t launch for me using the latest e17 from the “tests” branch of the Elive repos (it has never launched, even when I tried
it under the default e17 from Gem).

When I try to run it, I get a small, transparent window in the upper
left corner of my screen. When I close that window, I get this error
message:

“Application Execution Error: Cinelerra stopped running unexpectedly.
There was no error message. An exit code of 1 was /usr/bin/cinelerra.”

By the way, it does launch under e16, but with an error message about memory...

amsn in svn now supports audio conferencing as well as audio video calls.
also is very stable.
