crash during installation

When I install the 1.9.42 unstable compiz version it crashes when getting software from the internet. This has happened on my PC always then using a fresh installation. If I have an older version installed it doesn’t crash then. But once the OS is installed and booted, and I use apt-get or synaptic to install software it also crashes while downloading the software.

In the latest compiz dev release (1.9.42 unstable compiz) I can’t enter a static IP. It always reverts back to dhcp when I try to apply the proper address.

In all versions, an essential tool, midnight commander, is missing!!!

Thanks for a distro that has wireless working right out of the box, and flash, and quicktime, and even avi playing. But that is even a little flaky. But it wont play dvd’s using mplayer or oxine, or any of the players that are on the rep. I have a compaq armada notebook that needs all networking connections working, internet working and I want my multimedia. Thanks for the try but I’m moving down the road to the next distro...One of these will work like it should....good luck

PLEASE be describable, clear, and direct. Think that we need to understand, found, and solve the bug.

Remember to set the Due in Version box into the next stable version number.

elive 2.9.2 USB I have tried this in a Pentium system and cannot fully boot an hangs with message: module dm_raid45 not found in modules.dep

I have also tried booting an Acer 5532. Same problem

When I start for example the Elive-panel, and try to access items requiring the root passwd, gksu pops up, prompting me for the password, and upon entering it, it just goes back to the elive panel without anything else happening.

If i first fire up the elive-panel as root in the terminal, everything works fine - and I can configure the system.

Starting the panel from terminal without root privileges prints out this, as gksu disappears after trying to launch a program.

when loading the atm_76 module for it, nothing happens... doesn’t work

I have established elive_2.0_Topaz_old-kernel_up001.iso. There is no 3D, a problem with a kernel. At me ATI xpress 200. Therefore I wished to establish elive_1.9.42-compiz_unstable.iso, but the installer-module.cod has appeared not true. I have bought it 16 Martha of 2010 for 15€ at Elive download@elivecd.org. To me it is necessary correct installer-module.cod for elive_1.9.42-compiz_unstable.

Installer modules are not made to work with these versions of Elive, do you have tried the version “new kernel” (of topaz) ?
Is not this problem actually fixed ? (i think that i have replied some email lke this one)

Version 2.3.6 installed on HDD.

Hibernate are not working at all.
When I press button Hibernate the screen become totally black,
only mouse is active and can’t do anything,
i waited around 2 minutes and nothing changes so i restarted my laptop by power button.

PS. I installed “powermanagement-interface” package
and edited “/etc/default/grub” by adding there new line:
GRUB_CMDLINE_LINUX_DEFAULT=”resume=/dev/sda5”

and now i am using “pm-hibernate” (from terminal) and it’s works well but i want do it from button.

Also i want to know where this action scripts are stored i mean “Power Off”, “Suspend”, “Lock”, “Reboot”, “Hibernate”, “Log Out” ?
I edited file “/etc/enlightenment/sysactions.conf”
by editing line:
“action: hibernate /usr/sbin/hiber.sh”

in hiber.sh i have > “pm-hibernate” command.
But this doesn’t work so i only can go to hibernate from console by command “pm-hibernate” :(

when using GUI to import a new theme, a file selection window is displayed. The problem is that from the default directory, the “Go up a Directory” button is grayed out (unselectable).

This can be ugly-fixed by clicking “Add to Favorites” button, after which the “Go up a Directory” button is activated.

System - elive 1.9.21-6

system: elive 1.8.8 (downloaded from elivecd.org) installed on inspiron 1520

the default language is us and it is OK... the problem is when i change the keyboard layout to estonian in elpanel, the output of the keys is totally mangled. it looks something like a mix between webdings and chinese

since the layout is NOT giving latin letters, the user is unable to log in. this is a big problem for those new users trying out linux/elive... they have no idea how to fix xorg.conf themselves.

logging in from command line i was able to see that the xorg.conf had “et” as a layout instead of “ee”

after changing the layout to “ee” manually, everything works again

1.9.10 elive with latest updates, can’t connect to a hex wep local wifi network, there is no option to choose hex key (only wep, wpa and none), the network is there, but the connection is not made due to password failure

wicd finds and connects to the same network without a problem

If the connection manager module is enabled, it states that it needs econnman to work and please download it.
It would be useful if econnman was in the repository and would make getting online a tad easier methinks.

all updated through synaptic.
Both Thunar and EFM freeze the system when trying to open a new folder or document
I have not tried anything else as I keep having to reboot

great work, thank you.
But unfortunately I cannot boot after installation.
Or to be more specific… I can boot and all ttys take my requests…except of course tty7.
Or the main one booting… That one is black/blank…but i can kind of use my mouse as a curser.
This is exactly the same behavior I have when booting the live-stick with the default values.
But it works with the option “graphical problems”.
So imho I need the same boot option offered on the live-stick as “graphical problems”
for my main grub.
What parameters do I need to put in there… Or how can I fix this?
I will not use it as a live-system cause its just too damn inconvenient.
So please tell me how to get enlightenment to boot?
Otherwise I’ll have to back to ubuntu:(

On a laptop Lenovo ideapad 100S, I cannot install Elive on disk because the main hard drive (SSD) is not detected. Once booted in live mode, the list of detected drives showed by the Elive installer is empty. I also started Gparted which did not see my hard drive, only the USB stick.

I’m opening this bug but I will not be able to follow the resolution since I will not have access to this laptop anymore. It is just in case you can find the solution without my further help and inputs.

Vlc by playing movie or DVD after touching pause and play again has not sound. It takes few seconds, minutes, than souds again. If you move movie point with mouse, everythig is OK. In Elive 2.5.2.

In 2.6.12 Iceweasel or Firefox sync with account takes only few seconds and is lost. After receiving confirming mail and confirming, everything repeats. I received mail from my mail provider with warning, my email was entered from more countries! I changed password for Firefox, but dosen’t help. In Debian Jessie or in Semplice evetyhing works.
Update-grub2 and grub-install doesn’t find other debians on my hard disk. This bug was allready in last version 2.6.10.

Filenames in checksum files do not match actual names of files.
Eg. elive_2.0.iso
in elive_2.0_Topaz_old-kernel_up001.md5 and elive_2.0.iso
in elive_2.0_Topaz_new-kernel_up002.md5.

When trying to change resolution screen goes black and a box appears showing that Enlightenment SEGV’d.

To reproduce this bug please boot Elive from a CD, selecting automatic resolution. After full boot up enter Settings Panel/Screen/Resolution and choose some other resolution and frequency but do not save your selection, just click “restore” button and then change frequency again. Now this crash should happen.
I supose this behaviour is easier to reproduce using CRT display.

My guess is that this SEGV happens because when you mark resolution and frequency for the first time and cancel, the choice of resolution is not remembered, but you are still able to choose frequency and try to set it.

My rig has GeForce 5700 FX and thus uses nvidia 173 driver.

After changing resolution or frequency with the Screen Resolution Setting box the tick mark doesn’t change it’s place. However it marks the proper option after closing and reopening this box.

When graphical system crashes and a box with “Enlightenment SEGV’d” message shows up, this box is displayed in the centre of a screen with resolution set while booting up.
If resolution was changed after loading graphical system, this box shows out of the centre of current screen as if it matched centre of a sceen of resolution set at boot up. If resolution was changed a lot, part (or possibly whole) of this box is displayed out of visible screen and thus it’s hard to find out what actions are possible to recover from this situation.
