a problem for elive 1.9.56 and earlier versions up from about 1.9.30: (where older versions did not have this problem, but i don’t know exactly)

description:
the startup elive sound is much too loud (almost breaking the speakers)

on Lenovo R61i (and probably other laptops of this brand)
on DELL Latitude C540 (and also other laptops of this brand)

i found a workaround:
after selection of language you add nosound to the command line options
then the sound will be just audible but not annoy your neighbourhood.

on other computers like Apple MacMini or Samsung the sound level is ok.

on Apple iMac elive does not sound at all.

I am using elive_2.1.58_alpha_hybrid from live CD (not installed)

I want to kick the pre-installed chromium browser as it not usable with this lot of annoying ads.
So I remove it using synaptics, but df or free displays even more RAM in use, so I do not know whether it is really gone.

Then I can install iceweasel (or iceape) using synaptics and they are working fine also with noscript.

Would it be possible to pre-install iceweasel or iceape instead of chromium?

When trying to build an eap the icon selector confuses and piles the folders randomly, so that is hard to browse for icons: most folders are hidden by other ones..
moreover selecting an icon is possible only with double click and that opens gimp.

I installed the num lock package for having num lock enabled in x sessions, however every time i reboot there is no num lock in my elive.

I found out that if i browse with thunar then i launch mplayer for example to play a movie, it crashes if i close thunar window.
i tried the same with oxine but it doesn’t.

Ssh agent is unreacheable from ssh-add
no matter if started in a terminal, or in cli, ssh-add always give and unreacheable ssh-agent error.

This is the second time i experience the following problem:
if i set powersave governor, and leave the pc on overnight
the next morning the mouse pointer has disappeared
everything works, but i have no mouse pointer.
i have to open a terminal as root and reboot in order to regain control of the system.
This happens only with powersave governor or userspace fixed at the lowest speed (600 over 1300)

gdebi doesn’t install anything in 1.7.7 every package ends as a failed install just at the “database reading” 1st step.
Purging gdebi and reinstalling doesn’t fix this.
dpkg works fine

for fglrx is needed to disable atieventsd from loading because it crashes X at logout.

Some application which are not installed show anyway in elive menu: blender, cinelerra and a few others.
Clicking on them results in an error.

In my installation of elive 1.7.8 nvidia drivers work offering only a 800×600 definition.
Installing nvidia-xconfig packages and running it fixes the resolution but breaks glx
Seems the DCC is not properly working.
Samsung X10 laptop.

Im using Elive 1.7.7 and i chose to use synaptic mouse driver, if i plug in an usb mouse it behaves like i am always double-cliccking.
This shows some problems with many program, and menus.
Is not possible to revert to normal functioning unless using the synaptic one which works perfectly.

Thunar doesn’t correctly umount any memory device, especially if has more than one partition.
Moreover it leaves empty directories in /media/ once the device has been unplugged

tried to start the x11vnc server tru elpanel, is not possible to connect to it from another machine.
If tried to start x11vnc from elpanel called via ssh, then it shows a message telling that the server is closed.
Thus is not possible to VNC into an elive machine.

A tool for changing user and groups preferences is not available in elive even if it shows in the menu.

Probably bug of brasero and not of elive, it doesn’t eject cd after burning and dies with an error.

There are a few problems which prevent 1.8.2 to work flawlessly in eeepc:

Fn-f2 doesn’t work at all, i tested puppylinux and there is working perfectly, they found there is a particular way of modprobbing and rmmodding modules in order for it to work, they have made available a pet package, which is not else than a compressed tar.gz with all the stuff needed, might be nice to give a look to it: http://www.murga-linux.com/puppy/viewtopic.php?search_id=1394464815&t=31947

on the same, the wireless driver is extremely buggy, it shows every wireless hotspot as protected (even if they are open) and with minimal signal, and shows many troubles in connecting...again in puppylinux it worked perfectly, showing correct power, they use a patched madwifi driver, like eeedebian does, http://www.murga-linux.com/puppy/viewtopic.php?search_id=1394464815&t=31947

fn-volume keys have no effect, probably the script is not implemented yet, the scripts for puppy do it fine, you could shortcut by giving a look at their work.

I would suggest to run locale purge after installing on eeepc in order to save space, i recovered 200mb with it.

At the moment is almost not usable because the buggy wireless driver, is too hard to connect to hotspots.

There are a few minor stuff in elive 1.8.4:

• the cpufreq module is not working correctly and gives error

• exalt doesn’t work properly (but is well known)

• trackpad configuration is almost perfect but still some strange behaviour when trying to tap

• on resume from suspend wicd sometimes behaves crappy

• logging should be disabled, all the logging daemons should be disabled in order to extend ssd life

• there are quite a few daemons which could be disabled

• menu ghost applications are still there as well as thunar umount strangerness (well known)

great release, almost 100% works!

I noticed twice that my eeepc becames unresponsive after a few wifi disconnections, this happens using wicd or exalt.
Wicd stops telling it is trying to clean the routing table, exalt instead doesn’t show any particular message
From then every keyboard event is ignored, all the hotkey combination are not working
Could be a kernel panic since is not possible to do anything else than an hard reboot, the system appears freezed at the maximum CPU speed.

Hello i tested the 1.8.5 installed on my eeepc and found a bunch of bugs:

• exalt doesn’t recognizes interfaces, so is not possible to connect to anything

• during bootup i had a loop where messages ran very fast on the screen, to fix i had to hard reboot, didn’t happen again yet...this was happening also in 1.8.4

• thunar doesn’t mount devices, no usb pen, nor the usb SD card reader of the eeepc, they are not even seen by thunar

• trying to disable then re-enable exalt results in E17 segfault

• the cpufreq module is unable to change the governor

Beside that the system seems stable, however i can’t test it since no connection to internet.

noticed some small bugs:

1) the dpms config in laptop mode is uncorrectly linked..so it won’t change the screen brightness when going from battery mode to AC mode..easy to fix

2) thunar works fine, but opens 2 instances when installing an usb device..needs to be addressed...

Even after installing thunar thumbnailer thunar is unable to show raw camera images
