I am unable to get the live-cd mode to start the nvidia legacy 96xx driver/module. It fails after trying to unpack the 96xx kernel and uses the NV driver instead (meaning no 3d acceleration). 96xx is the correct version for my nvidia mx440 card and has worked perfectly in previously in past elive versions up to Gem. Unstable version 1.8.8 and the two previous unstable releases of them all had the same problem. Good slow burn at 8x speed and Md5 checked. not a particular release as it is exactly the same in those three 1.8.8 and below. Also an error box prompts at startup saying not all features have been started and recommends rebooting to try to get them working.

Installs fine, It installs the NV driver etc and when i try to switch to/install the 96xx after install I am not good enough at linux to get it working. It never starts x and pushes me to a login prompt.

During boot it even tells me there is an error and report it here.

Latest version (2.8.6 Beta) . Be good to have possibility to boot into UEFI (not only standard BIOS).
A self signed key is fine as 90% of machines will allow this.

Notes: self signed key is the requirement for the “Secure Boot” part

Confirmed.. there is a bug using bittorrent clients in elive 0.6.7 unstable, using bittornado, ktorrent or even the simple Opera torrent utility, it downloads but in a very low speed, about 5.0 kbs/per sec, while rebooting in the same machine, with another Linux OS download with same software, it downlaods at the top of my line ( about 250 Kbs/per sec ) without any problems.

The PCMCIA ports are not loaded or unaccessible. It won’t read any card.

Values in original xorg.conf : 50 - 60

Good values : 50 - 160

The original values block refresh rate to 60Hz.

I can switch a video to fullscreen mode, but, i can’t switch back to normal size, i have a black screen, with all possible video output (XV, X11, OpenGL.....)

I found a temporary solution :

Open a video normaly with mplayer, then do ALT + Right Click, fullscreen

There, E17 will switch the window in fullscreen, mplayer doesn’t anything and to switch back in normal size, do the same operation, ALT = Right Click, uncheck fullscreen.

This problem appears since 0.6.7 from memomry.

Cinelerra hangs on start and it’s not possible to do anything.

1. There are several windows in the installation of Elive GEM that has a “generic” name on the top. And would be really better if we could write a correct description. Examples:

• Many windows has “SELECTS ITEMS FROM THE LIST”. That’s a generic name and it doesn’t reveal the content of the window when you press alt+tab. For example in: “Select partitioning method”, “Choose partition”, “Choose filesystem”.

This is particulary annoying when you are doing other things while installing. For example I had many windows opened and I didn’t noticed that “SELECTS ITEMS FROM THE LIST” was the “Select partitioning mehotd”.

This could be not considered even a “feature request” because is my own desire.

During the installation of Elive, sometimes you have to wait several minutes between installation steps. During this minutes I have tempted to do some other things (in fact I was using the IRC).

But I had a problem with my installation because an installation window suddenly raised to focus and I pressed “space” (because I’m writting on the IRC) and, obviously the installation window assumed that I’ve pressed some button on its screen.

The fact is that maybe installation windows doesn’t have to raise to focus or maybe, no keyboard shortcuts would be available on those screens.

Installing 3.8.2 beta as permanent on a PNY 32 GB USB key plugged in a dell Latitude 630, everything went fine except the following : every choices on packages to be kept on disk (themes, softwares…) were discarded, resulting in a minimal install (2 themes, 1 language…)

hi, i’m using the asus eee-pc 900a and everytime i tried watching videos of any kind (flv, avi, ...), the player crashed. i tried totem, mplayer, vlc and so on, but it’s the same with all of them, also there was no bugreport, they where just closed after a second...can you help me?

In elive panel it would have to ask the root password only once, when somebody click on the “admin and system configurations” menu, and not every time when click on one of it’s submenu.

Xpdf is not a bad reader but I think they are very better pdf reader now:

The fstab file is not good gererated by the system when is installed. The system detect extended partition and put it on the fstab. This procure a crash on fsdik on startup.

When I creat a new partition with gparted on my usb disc, the partition is automaticaly detected and the system proposes me to mounted but gparted has not finish the work and crashes.

Creating new partitions is not possible (for end user).

The text in menu of XFE is not right encoded (with the french menu). For exemple “Propriété” is “Propri€Â©t€Â©”.

If I created a file or rename it i have the same problem.

Synaptic will not update everything. If i update lists, and select the option to mark all, it cannot update. (it displays the folowwing error:)

This is a problem of the upgrade of xorg7, well, the more simple option is “upgrade your Elive” from the Elive installer (a new feature similar a upgrade than a installation), it reinstall the system automatized saving your /home partition, users, files, main configurations, etc

No access to my other partitions (Windows partition) for normal users. (Root user has access) This is not really a bug, but in the 0.4 all users had access.

When I put a usb key for exemple elive mount it on /media/XXX with the user option. Is not realy a bug but the user option implies noexec, nosuid, et nodev option. I think noexec is not a cool option because I have often program on my key and is not a security because you can start a script for exemple like this /bin/sh ./script.sh. my proposition keep the user option but remove noexec. more information here → http://linuxfr.org/forums/15/7853.html (french)

OS:
Elive 1.51 Dev - lang=de

The Bugs:

1. Keyboard - Live works fine in German with QWERTZ Keyboard. The installed System is in German but the Keyboard falls back to QWERTY. If I change it with Elpanel QWERTZ works only for the actual Session, after Log-Off or Reboot the Keyboard is falling back to QWERTY and didn’t save my settings. There is one Error Message while changing:
Die Konfigurationsdatei /etc/default/console-setup spezifiziert eine Tastaturbelegung und -variante, die von dem Konfigurationsprogramm nicht unterstützt wird. Deshalb werden keine Fragen über die Tastaturbelegung gestellt und Ihre gegenwärtige Konfiguration wird erhalten.

a) The System freeze while trying Themes and changing them for a few times. I have to break the session with ctrl alt f1/f2.
b) or if its not freezing there comes an Error Message like: enlightment is crashing, recover or exit.

Elive 1.9.5.1 - Asus G1s, 4GB ram, nvidia 8600gt-m, HD 160gb

Elive is running on sda1 30gb, swap is sda2 6gb, sda3 is 110gb datastore.
I’ve erased 60gb from sda3 to get more free space. Than I tried to copy 80gb Musicfiles(flac, ogg, mp3)from an ext hd to sda3. After copying near 30gb the prozess stopped with an errormessage: no more free space. I ereased everything on sda3 but after that the same result. Than I took GParted to try another filesystem (fat32). Gparted did his job but as I started Thunar, the Manager shows me that there are still all files on sda3 and no more free space. Gparted shows a free sda3.
A check under windows shows, Gparted is right, sda3 is free. Copying 80gb musicfiles to sda3 works also fine.

So there’s a prob with Filemanagment, Thunar or cache.
