Once we set a user to Autologin (at installation or later using the user configurator) we can’t turn it off

I was playing with Elive on my new SSD and for the 2nd time today the GUI frozed

once there, I could go to CTRL + F1 console window and restart

Next time it freeze, is there something/log I could send you to help figure out why the GUI frozed ?

Just booted and received :
XRandR failed:
XRandR returned error code 1: xrandr: cannot find crtc for output VGA1

If I open the screen config tool and try to configure again, I hit apply and still get

I booted today and I can only see the mouse on my 2 screen.

I can go into console mode to reboot, but at reboot, same scenario. 2 BLack screen, only see the mouse

Weird that it happen suddenly, I had to reboot in Elive yesterday 2 or 3 times without having that problem.

What are your recommendations to avoid reinstalling ?

Right / Left monitor and resolution are ok

But

I always have to reset who’s the primary screen

I do it, save, and the application bar goes on the right one but at reboot, the wrong screen as the application bar

Just received a message from dropbox than my Elive computer won’t be supported by Dropbox after nov 7 2018.

I assume it’s the kernel version ( hope it’s not the 32 bits support that they are stopping)

I was exploring the games your included in ELive
Opened PAcMan ( I come from that era)

and it opened on my 2 screen, brought back my 2 screen in mirroring mode

I had to reconfigure my screens

Probably not a problem on a one monitor config

In the file manager ( Date), Time Gadget, the english language doest not apply properly

I mean, example in THunar, the Date modified column is in a language I don’t understand even if I choosed english when installing

I tried other English ( canada, USA) same problem

BTW when I change the language, my desktop Application bar is move to the wrong monitor ( not the primary anymore)

Upgraded to 1.9.10 and REAL NICE, saved all old data, even OZ themes with animated wallpaper that I had to configure previously.
I would like to recommend that the “profile name field” be filled in the network connector default such as “eliveuser” as the network does not work because the field is blank.
Upgrade did not remove Exalt from menu, just the icon.
I know you are working on network Icon so I won’t ask.

All the problems I have with net-connector since I have started using it, have been ironed out very very fast. I know only have one known minor issue in that I can select wlan0 from eth0 and both are running. I have to disconnect eth0 first then select wlan0 then things are good. The side affects of both running is that pages load very slowly, you think that your card is the problem. Once disconnecting from one then selecting the other things run great. Just thinking of the new users that will get there first experience with Elive 2.0, not myself as I don’t mind dealing with miner issues myself.

If root password [and possibly user passwd] is set during HD install with “$” as the first character, elive appears to accept the password. Once the system is installed ‘esu’ and terminal commands like ‘su’ fail to accept the password.

This works perfectly on every other Distro I’ve ever used, so I think it must be specific to the elive installer.

Also, once the system is installed, attempting to change the password using the GUI user manager attempting to set a password beginning with “$” fails with the message “The passwords are not equals, please try again”.

It appears to accept other non-alphanumeric characters. It only fails with “$”

The best solution would be for the password setting to work correctly with “$” as the first character in the passwd.

A less professional but at least acceptable alternative would be to generate an error telling the user not to start a password with “$”. This would be a useful workaround but might appear as a shortcoming relative to other distributions.

I don’t see the mixer module in e17-stable

A lot of people will be switching over to Elive from a distrobution other than Elive (I, for example, am coming from debian). It would be nice to not have to format my /home partition to mount it as the /home in Elive (Gem). Thanks :)

When I click by mouse on desktop near right border (of desktop), menu is showed all, but if I want to show submenu (for example “Applications” it is showed on the right side of menu and it is not showed all, only partially.

Could you fix it? For example show submenu on the left of mainmenu?

After install Elive Beta to NTB and login to GUI it is not posible to set song to “No song” or any else default.
If it is clicked for example to “NO SONG” aplication would set song by default.

Running 2.9.22.

Crl-Alt-L is supposed to lock the screen but no password is necessary. Simply hit enter and the screen unlocks.

Running on Dell XPS 13 L322x

Used LiveCd for 1.7.7 dev.,but numerous problems. One no support for English (US), just UK, even though Portugal and Brazil get their own language settings. Also, when I tried to load the graphical system, I get the error (EE) no devices detected. Also, the CD did not detect my wireless card, Cisco MPI350, and forced me to use the Ndiswrapper option. Nice music though.

I tried to update my 3.8.12 64-bit beta installation with the 14 updates in “Software 3.30.6”. That fails.

[I do not appear to be able to upload an image file and hence cannot paste the screen snapshot I took.]

“OK” I said to myself, “I should be able to download the 3.8.14 64-bit beta ISO and re-install.” That I do not seem to be able to do without coughing up more money for the download.

After much difficulty and with help from Than, I was finally able to install Topaz. Everything “seems” perfect, EXCEPT when I click on Wallpaper, every time, that very action freezes TOPAZ totally. Only way I can get out is forced, hard shut down as ctrl, alt, delete, K & X do not work.

I have many wallpapers I wish to use with slideshow to alternate my desktop and this is a major turnoff and worries that other parts of the menu might not be stable. Please check this and advise. Attempting to escape from prisoner status at M$. Have tried many distros over past few months, E17-Compiz my favorite so far. Have downloaded and installed latest version, 1.9.40 and during installation process, of course, installer verfied my download as being good.

Problem 1) No audio, Audacity (the Denon player)and Audio CD extractor both DEAD, nothing happens, no instruction. However, when I play a DVD, using movie player, I have sound? Either bug or are there special codecs that need to be downloaded to play CD’s and MP3‘s?

Problem 2) Each and EVERY time I boot E17-compiz, after it finalizes, a window pops up saying it needs to “fine tune”. This process takes almost 10-15 mins and always ends with: ERROR: Module slamr does not exist in /proc/modules. It would seem something in the loading of the info off the Live CD is incompatible? I have deleted and re-installed whole system, same problem, cannot stop/prevent “FINE TUNE”

Problem 3) E17-Compiz will NOT shut down. Go to System, power off and a window pops up advising of shut down, but stating: “please wait” After 10 minutes of waiting, still nothing happening. This problem happens every single time requiring me to Alt + SysRq+O to get out. Perhaps the shut down and fine tune are related as E17-compiz is not shutting down properly and is noted on the next boot triggering the “fine tune”.

If these are not “bugs” (although I have spent hours on each problem) please advise corrective measures in simple, easy to follow instruction. I note forum is not much help on most problems and this is one thing that really discourages people who are trying to leave M$ from going to Linux.

I am happy to pay for support or even to financially invest in this project as I like what I see, but am discouraged that basic things like sound, boot up and shut down do not work. I can understand and appreciate E17-Compiz is not stable, but one would think basics such as these would be way beyond the unstable/in development mode.

Thanks for any help you can provide and if bugs, I hope they can be corrected asap.

Hi, sorry to have to report, I just tried to install (with a proven DVD download of E17 compiz) on a 2nd computer, Intel MB DG45FC. First problem was it would not recognize display resolution, I am using Mitsubishi Diamond Digital, wide screen (16 x 9) and factory default setting called for is 1280 x 768 at 60HZ—which is in listed choices upon installation, nor any other resolution including auto? This is a 64bit machine, I have the DVD installed OK, no problem, on a Gigabyte 32bit MB.

I kept trying, over and over and somehow was able to “force” installation after being given a choice to use a pre-existing resolution(?) Install completed, fine tune came up and stopped at: “module slamr does not exist in /proc/modules. Also, internet connect was not able to be made, no matter what I tried so I can make no correction through apt-get, Synaptic or .deb. I also got a notice that e17 economorph failed to install because of some file in libdecorate(?) was trying to overwrite an already existing file. Not being technically capable, I haven’t a clue.

But please, do not fool yourself into thinking the slamr “bub” has been corrected and gone away, it is still there.

I have read this from others, so I know it is not just me. I had a successful download of e17 compiz on a 32bit gigabyte MB computer until the other day, with your latest upgrade, it knocked out my sound. I have spent hours reading through various linus forums (as the elive forum is silent on this with only a couple of useless suggestions) and tried all the so-called “fixes” for correcting sound, NONE work. This is a major drawback to linux, take Ubuntu for instance over 200 pages of cries for help to get sound. Unbelieveable. The reason I stuck with e17-compiz is everything worked from the get go, but not any more. I cannot get sound and now, (another bug report) when I tried to install on my 2nd computer, Intel MB DG45FC, not only NO SOUND, but “module slamr does not exist” rears its ugly head.

This is a great OS, but someone needs to take the proper time to correct these basic issues, my god, sound in the year 2009 sound not be an issue. Much as I wish to escape M$ and like e17-compiz, I am getting discouraged and about to give up, I have no time nor desire to become a computer tech/rocket scientist simply to install and use an OS.

Hi I can’t use my wireless Edimax card as the shipped rt61 driver won’t work so i have to instead use this:

BUT it won’t compile in elive. the make command doesnt work even with headers and source installed. can someone please help.

I know i need to use this driver as i’ve used it before. the MAKE worked in ubuntu and fedora and was simple to get my edimax card working.

i’ve uninstalled the rt61 generic driver from elive ready to install this specific legacy one, can someone please give advice, i’m sure it’s just cos some symlinks are wrong or something.
