because the 1.0 it’s too old, and i can’t instlal application, and install scons is difficult :

A tool for changing user and groups preferences is not available in elive even if it shows in the menu.

I use a partition for / and another for /home.
The installer recognized / as a previous Elive installation and proceeds.
It doesn’t ask for /home partition nor for user creation.
After editing /etc/passwd I see an eliveuser has been created but if I set that a password is required at reboot, I’m screwed because it doesn’t ask to set it.

Installed 1.8.2 on an HP Pavilion, the touch pad is fine but when the USB mouse is plugged in it won’t pull up application menu’s, or it will pull them up REAL fast and then close them when you release the button. What they do seems consistant of the application like Firefox3 won’t pull up the pull down menu’s where as Pidgin will come up with menu’s but hide them when you let go of the mouse button.

This is new when 1.8.2 was installed from previous version.

Could be nice to boot from USB devices for computers that can’t boot from USB (bios) (and that doesn’t has a CDROM), for that, could be needed to boot a grub, this grub should load the kernel and the initrd (the kernel include the drivers needed for the USB’s), and then the initrd (eli) will list all the devices so the user select his USB to boot from

This is very nice to have for computers that can’t boot USB’s (or doesn’t has cdrom), and a easy way to upgrade to newest elive versions

Update: This feature actually exists (tested and working), just add the parameters boot=eli changedevice to your grub and you are able to boot from the USB :) (only a Elive system, so it scans for it)

If you open terminal from thunar, which is assigned to urxvt, the colors theme is not considered, it doesn’t read our .Xdefaults file ?

Please upgrade to the new enlightenment, this version is completely obsolete.

The needed “features” for upgrading system from ISO (CD or HDD ISO):

- let the gadgets be as they were before
- let the background be as it was
- lost the hotkey setup from the keyboard shortcuts made by myself
- lost the installed applications, they’re still on HDD but they’re not installed

Multiple reports:

- If you run the upgrade mode with the beta version, it doesnt seems to boot it (file not found)

- The entry from grub is not removed after the first (any state) reboot

- The installer of 3.0 needs to be adapted

Some messages of the installer needs to have YES NO messages:

the message “you have got an older version..” and the other one requesting to upgrade should be corrected.

Moreover, the installer doesn’t identify correctly the version, it tells me i am upgrading 1.9.11 with 1.9.11 while i am upgrading 1.9.10 with 1.9.11

There’s a big problem with the updates of the system that will broke the graphical system, this bug has Critical severity

The problem is that, if you upgrade your system, it will update the GLX package of your ati/nvidia drivers, this means, that you will have a X version of the kernel with an ati (or nvidia) module in the version Y, that is incompatible with the updated version Z of the GLX package

To solve that problem, I have used all this time a block (hold mark) of the GLX package (the user should have the same kernel all the time)

But the problem is, for example, that if the user update the system that include an updated kernel, and an update of the ati kernel module, the GLX package for ati is not updated so it is incompatible and the user can’t reach the graphical system

Actual case: updated system: update the kernel, but the packages fglrx-driver, fglrx-glx and fglrx-kernel-2.3.26.8-elive-686 are holded, so not updated, the kernel can’t simply load that old version of the ati driver and the user can’t reach the graphical system

If we hold the packages, there’s the problem that everything needs to be updated (so, do not hold anything) in order to work correctly. But if we don’t lock them, also if the user upgrade the system, will use the same version of the kernel, so then the ati GLX package will be updated and not work with the old kernel/module, the only solution for that and everything is that update the version of the kernel too (with a virtual-package for example)... this was requested by some users but, it is a good idea ? what happens if a user dont want to update his kernel ? what about if a version of the kernel mades the computer of a user to NOT boot or not work ? and finally... the grub menu needs to be updated on that case then

Comments about this problematic issue ?

HP mini 2133 with CPU VIA x86 C7-m 1.6Ghz and probably all of these from VIA
- kernel not supported scaling, scale module error so CPU module in E17 makes only ???

Ejecting of media (usb key) gives following error message:

“Device to unmount is not in /media/.hal-mtab so it is not mounted by HAL.”

Locked “System” → “Lock”

went away for a couple of minutes came back and give in my pwd in de textbox. After pressing enter it tried to unluck but seems the program went in an loop, this for several minutes.

I was able to switch and log in in other TTY’s login no problem rebooted and was then able to login in the gui.

If U end some dialogs from setup panel without exit as expected - for example not to wait for EXIT button and end it with close window or ESC, there is E17 error appeared..

I am unable to switch my desktop background in e17 using either emblem via the elpanel or using the configuration panel. These files are .edj that are located ~/.e/e/backgrounds.

I was not able to access the bookmarks on the Iceweasel and I was not able to use the right button on the mouse on my Toshiba laptop

i was not able top open the bookmarks on Iceweasel, I also was not able to use the right button on the mouse to copy and paste. I got a crash when trying to remove the clock from the desktop.
This was only a problem on the toshiba laptop on the PC every thing works fine

I just installed Elive stable and when I reboot and try to login, Elive tells me that my password is incorrect (I tryed it a lot of times, included in failsafe mode)

The installation process of any Jetbrains IDE ends in error. This installation works on Ubuntu, Kali, Arch, and it is very straightforward.
